M365 / Azure Systems Administrator II

SUMMARY

Under general supervision, the M365/Azure Systems Administrator II is responsible for the implementation, administration, maintenance, and support of Microsoft Azure, Microsoft 365, Windows Servers, RHEL Servers, and hybrid infrastructure environments. This role supports enterprise cloud and on-premises systems, participates in infrastructure projects, and provides technical expertise for cloud services, identity management, virtualization, and systems automation.

The successful candidate will possess strong technical knowledge of Microsoft technologies and be capable of troubleshooting complex issues, implementing solutions, and contributing to cloud modernization initiatives. This role serves as an escalation point for operational support and works closely with engineering, networking, cybersecurity, and application teams to maintain reliable and secure infrastructure services.

JOB DUTIES

Microsoft Azure Administration

• Administer and support Microsoft Azure resources including Virtual Machines, Storage Accounts, Backup Services, Virtual Networks, and Resource Groups.
• Assist with deployment and maintenance of Azure services supporting business applications and infrastructure.
• Monitor Azure environments for performance, availability, security, and cost optimization opportunities.
• Support cloud migration efforts involving servers, applications, and data.
• Configure and maintain Azure networking components including VPN connections, NSGs, Load Balancers, and DNS services.

Microsoft 365 Administration

• Administer and support Microsoft 365 services including:
  • Exchange Online
  • Microsoft Teams
  • SharePoint Online
  • OneDrive for Business
  • Microsoft Intune
  • Entra ID
• Support user provisioning, licensing, mailbox administration, and collaboration services.
• Assist with implementation of Microsoft 365 security and compliance features.
• Troubleshoot messaging, authentication, and collaboration platform issues.

Identity & Access Management

• Manage Entra ID (Azure AD) user accounts, groups, role assignments, and authentication services.
• Support Conditional Access policies and Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA).
• Maintain Active Directory, Group Policy, DNS, DHCP, and related identity services.
• Assist with Single Sign-On (SSO) integrations and identity-related troubleshooting.

Systems Administration

• Administer Windows Server operating systems and related infrastructure services.
• Support VMware virtual infrastructure and virtual machine lifecycle management.
• Perform server provisioning, upgrades, patching, and decommissioning activities.
• Maintain system health, availability, and performance through proactive monitoring and maintenance.
• Participate in disaster recovery testing and business continuity activities.

Automation & Scripting

• Develop and maintain automation scripts using PowerShell and related tools.
• Automate routine administrative tasks, reporting, and operational processes.
• Support Infrastructure-as-Code initiatives utilizing Azure-native deployment tools and templates.
• Contribute to continuous improvement efforts that increase system reliability and operational efficiency.

Operational Support & Troubleshooting

• Provide Tier 3 technical support for complex infrastructure and cloud-related issues.
• Perform root cause analysis and implement corrective actions to prevent recurring incidents.
• Work with vendors, application teams, and infrastructure groups to resolve technical problems.
• Participate in on-call support rotation as required.

Documentation & Project Participation

• Create and maintain system documentation, operational procedures, diagrams, and technical standards.
• Participate in infrastructure projects, cloud initiatives, upgrades, and technology refresh efforts.
• Collaborate with project managers, engineers, analysts, and cybersecurity teams on technical implementations.
• Assist in evaluating new technologies and recommending improvements to existing environments.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

• Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field, or equivalent work experience.
• Typically requires five (5) or more years of progressive experience supporting Microsoft infrastructure environments.
• Experience administering Microsoft Azure and Microsoft 365 in an enterprise environment.
• Experience supporting hybrid cloud and on-premises environments preferred.

• VMware VCP
• ITIL Foundation

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

• Strong knowledge of Microsoft Azure administration and cloud services.
• Experience supporting Microsoft 365 technologies and enterprise collaboration platforms.
• Proficiency with Windows Server administration, Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, and Group Policy.
• Experience with virtualization technologies including VMware.
• Strong PowerShell scripting and automation skills.
• Understanding of cybersecurity best practices, identity management, and access controls.
• Familiarity with cloud networking concepts, backup solutions, and disaster recovery practices.
• Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills with the ability to resolve complex technical issues.
• Excellent communication, documentation, and customer support skills.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and work effectively both independently and within a team environment.
