Job Summary

Are you ready to spend your summer as a part of something special? Imagine being with a company whose reputation for excellence paves the way for endless success. At Genuine Parts Company (GPC), people build long-lasting, highly satisfying careers and make a real difference in the community. Our 10-week summer internship program will be in person in Atlanta and run from May 24 – July 30, 2027.

As an Inventory Planning and Replenishment Intern, you will be building a Root Cause Engine and analyzing the data. The Inventory Root Cause Engine is an analytics platform designed to what happened and more importantly, identify WHY it happened.

Our internship program is designed as a cohort experience, bringing interns from across the organization together to learn, grow, and build connections throughout the summer. While gaining hands-on experience within your team, you'll also be part of a community of fellow interns sharing the journey alongside you.

As an intern at GPC, you can look forward to:

Meaningful Work: Contribute to projects that support key business priorities and showcase your impact through a final presentation to senior leaders.

Professional Development: Participate in development experiences designed to build your skills, confidence, and understanding of the workplace.

Leadership Exposure: Hear from and connect with leaders across the organization, including senior executives, to learn more about our business, leadership, and career growth.

Connection & Community: Build relationships with fellow interns and employees through networking, social events, and collaborative experiences.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor KPI’s. The Engine will monitor key performance indicators such as fill rate, in-stock percentage, backorders, inventory turns, forecast accuracy, and excess inventory.
  • Identify Performance Issues. Apply rules-based analytics and machine learning to diagnose the primary drivers of performance issues.
  • Analyze and categorize root causes. Rather than simply flagging a declining fill rate, the engine will classify the root cause into categories such as supplier constraints, forecast error, replenishment parameter issues, network imbalances, assortment gaps, or execution failures at the DC or store level.
  • Create an interactive dashboard. The project would culminate in an interactive dashboard that ranks the largest service and inventory opportunities across the network, quantifies the business impact, and recommends corrective actions, allowing planners and leaders to focus on resolution rather than investigation. This directly supports the organization's objective of modernizing reporting and analytics capabilities by shifting from descriptive reporting to predictive and prescriptive decision support and exception-based management.

Qualifications

  • Currently a rising junior or senior pursuing an undergraduate degree in Data Analytics, Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics or other related field required.
  • Stong experience with data analysis tools such as: SQL, Python, R, Power BI, Tableau, AI, Excel

  • Strong analytical aptitude.
